Sister Carrie: A New American Opera

Based on the 1900 novel by Theodore Dreiser, this new American opera tells the story of a young woman born into poverty who defies social and sexual norms to rise to stardom on the New York stage. It will have its world premiere in October 2016 at the Florentine Opera Company in Milwaukee. Having won two Grammy awards for their last operatic collaboration, Elmer Gantry, composer Bob Aldridge and librettist Herschel Garfein are excited to get this highly-anticipated piece out into the world, and we couldn't have been happier to help. The type treatment of the title immediately places the work in its historical context, and highlighting the amazing photography that the creators produced to promote show was certainly an easy choice.
